Our speech apparatus has been accustomed to certain movements since childhood, and when we transfer them to the Czech language, an accent appears – consonants that are too soft, “akanie” instead of clear vowels, and loss of stress, etc.
The Metropol School presents its first targeted course on Czech pronunciation development for students with a B1+ level.

Full-time course groups are formed once a year. The number of seats in the classroom is strictly limited (up to 10 people) so that the teacher can devote time to everyone.
Rules for attending and paying for courses
- Payment procedure: tuition fees are paid in full 1 month in advance, before the start of the reporting academic period.
- Basic regulations: the price indicated in the price list is valid when filling a group of 4 people or more. The standard duration of one lesson is 90 minutes , frequency – once a week.
- Adjustments for changes in group composition: If the number of students in a group decreases, the tuition for the remaining participants remains unchanged, and the duration of the lessons is adapted to the chamber format:
- For a group of 3 people, the lesson duration is 75 minutes.
- For a group of 2 people, the lesson duration is 60 minutes.
The program is built on the principle of “from simple to complex”: from individual sounds to the melody of the text.
Module 1: Reconfiguration of the speech apparatus. Vowels and length
Theory: The principle of Czech longitude.
Practice: Practicing short and long vowels. Getting rid of reduction.
Module feature: Test drive on pairs of words that change their meaning due to one dash.
Module 2: Spy Consonants and the Legendary “Ř”
Theory: The anatomy of the sound Ř – a step-by-step guide for those who can’t get it right. The difference between hard and soft consonants.
Practice: Secret exercises for automating Ř in conjunction with other letters.
The module’s feature: Tongue twisters (Jazykolamy), designed specifically to overcome an accent.
Module 3: Stress and Rhythm (Czech Step)
Theory: Fixed stress on the first syllable. Why does the Slavic “wandering” stress break Czech speech? Rhythmic pattern of a Czech sentence.
Practice: Reading texts with stress marking. The skill of “taking the hit” on the first syllable, even if the word is long.
The module’s feature: Parsing songs or rap lyrics in Czech to catch the rhythm.
Module 4: Melody, Intonation, and Word Fusion
Theory: Why do Czechs sound “even” or “singsong”, while we sound “aggressive” or “too emotional”. Rules of pausing and intonation in questions/statements.
Practice: How to correctly pronounce prepositions with words as a whole. Reduction and connection of sounds at the junction of words.
Module highlight: Role-playing dialogues from popular Czech TV series or podcasts.
Module 5: Real Life and Pronunciation Stress Test
Theory: Colloquial Czech (Obecná čeština) vs. Literary Czech (Spisovná čeština). How sounds change in the fluent speech of native speakers.
Practice: Simulate a call to a government agency, making an appointment with a doctor, or going through an interview.
Module highlight: Final exam – a recording of your audio business card “Before and After” the course.

Are any documents required to start training?
— According to the official requirements of the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic, each student must complete a STUDENT FORM before the start of classes.
About the course and format
What language level is this course suitable for?
— The course is designed for students with a level of B1 and above. You should already have a basic vocabulary and understand grammar, as in our classes we don’t teach the language from scratch, but work exclusively on the quality, rhythm, and clarity of your speech.
Why does the course last 10 months? Can’t it be done faster?
— Pronunciation is not knowledge of rules, but the muscle memory of your speech apparatus. To permanently remove the accent, automate the letter Ř, and get used to Czech vowel length, the tongue muscles require regular and long-term training. In 10 months, we will bring these skills to automaticity, and you will no longer have to painfully think before every word.
How do the classes work and how many people are in a group?
— Classes are held in person in Prague, once a week for 90 minutes. Chamber groups (up to 10 people). This allows the phonetic teacher to hear each student, carefully analyze facial expressions, tongue position, and immediately correct errors on the spot.
Will the course help if I am terrified of talking on the phone?
– Yes, this is one of the main objectives of the course. The fear of the telephone arises from the fear of being misunderstood. We’ll work through typical call scenarios (doctor’s appointments, government communications, work-related matters) and develop the right tone of voice so you feel confident even without eye contact.
I’ve been living in the Czech Republic for several years now, is it even possible to correct my accent?
– Really. Even if you have already developed strong speech habits, in-person supervision from a teacher and special anatomical exercises will help you “retrain” your articulation. You will learn to control the softness of consonants and get rid of the pronunciation that is typical for our language group.
Will the course focus on conversational Czech (Obecná čeština)?
– Yes. In the second semester, we take a detailed look at how native speakers speak in real life. You’ll learn which sounds Czechs shorten or modify in their everyday, fluent speech, so you not only sound more natural but also understand spoken language much better.
Payment, discounts and returns
How is monthly tuition payment made?
— When choosing the monthly format, payment is made one month in advance (before the start of the academic period). This allows you to secure your place in the group.
What if I miss a class? Do you get your money back?
— Payment for missed classes is not refundable, as your place in the in-person group is reserved for you. However, we do not leave you without information: please notify us of any absences in advance. In this case, the teacher will send you all the materials from the previous lesson so that you can study the topic independently and keep up with the group.
What should I do if I need to go on a long business trip or have difficult personal circumstances?
— We understand perfectly well that there are different situations in life. If you need to interrupt your studies for a long period, this issue will be decided on an individual basis. Please contact the school administration immediately and we will find the best compromise.
I paid for a course at a discount (for 5 or 10 months), but decided to stop studying. Will I get my money back?
– Yes, you can stop training at any time, and we will refund you. In this case, the amount for the classes actually attended will be recalculated without taking into account the discount, after which the remainder will be returned to you:
- If you have studied for less than 5 months, the recalculation of completed classes is carried out at the standard base price – 2,500 CZK per month.
- If you have studied for more than 5 months, the recalculation of completed classes is carried out at a reduced cost of the first package (based on the cost of one hour of the course for 5 months).
